Meanwhile in Canada....

From California to British Columbia; its be more than just asphalt, but, there has been some of that too.  We just ran the whole length of the state of California and note the diverse change from desert to evergreen forest and Alaskan-like coastlines, carrying us to Vancouver, B.C., and into the Canadian Rockies.

Ukiah CA

A session in the pool with Joan and David Mosedale (my uncle and the Mosedale family sage), Erin Mosedale and her boys, Jaxson and Aiden.  We were a wholesome collective of conversation, laughs and good times. It was great to catch up and enjoy warm company and check into our respective worlds; just picking up without skipping a beat, since our last visit 10 years ago!  Yes, too long, but we grow and move along in this spectrum of life, family and friends, and we know that each of us is connected and reunite seamlessly.

A session in the skate board park, places that seem more common than weeds in this #rad star state of California. We bounced along, up the coast of Route 101, and saw redwood trees, snippets of hemp and the growing culture, all permeating our voyage.  Beautiful, independent, sonic, countryside. Okay, okay - boom!

 The Redwood Highway

Trinidad CA

We landed for a break in Trinidad, CA, and again I was reminded of the Alaskan coast, rocky abutments in small bays.  A tinge of open-minded ruggedness and subsistence culture.  The salt air was nice to breathe.

Through the Klamath Region, canyon rivers and forest, think board feet.  We crossed the boarder into Oregon (I just love that there is a state name that references a Chainsaw chain company), it kinda shows here.

Cindy championed the night portion of the distance push as we approached Portland and our impending attack on Seattle for rental cars swap (Boarder crossing paper crap) and then onto the ‘hard stop’ Whistler, B.C., CANADA.

As a finely oiled machine we multi tasked, I went to Sea-Tac airport to get car border paper work while Cindy, Charlotte and Ethan caught up on laundry. I returned  just in time to help fold and go.

I have to say that I loved how our afternoon unfolded - passing through the border, Vancouver and Squamish - the view getting better, and better and better.  We arrived in Whistler, B.C., mid to later afternoon, leaving enough time for us to check into this mountain and high country playground.

Bike riding, zipping, 4-wheeling and horse-back-riding adventures tucked into this beautiful valley, among many, many more opportunities. Now I see why so many come here, and heck, a Winter Olympic venue to boot!

Whistler Radness (Find Your Ride?  We Did!)

Yurt Life in Ewokville

 A Horse of Course

This was a great stroll thought the B.C. Rockies. We got to ride gentle, graceful ponies that plodded along with us on top allowing us to get a cool perspective of this area.

 Clouds of the Canadian Rockies

As Whistler came to a close, we left Ewokville and headed north through the canyons, surrounded by clouds and rocks and ravine outwash - it was spectacular!  Comfort in the road and the sky above for sure as we trace the Fraser and Thompson Rivers over to 'The Connector' and the Okanogan beyond!

Happy 150th CANADA - Glad to Enjoy Penticton, B.C.: Family - BOOM!

We made it to Cindy's family; Mary, Durwin, Susi, Gordie and Sandy shared a great hike and adventure up Pincushion Rock.  Later, it is marvelous to connect, break bread and enjoy a story or two about our past, our anticipated futures and just relax with amazing hosts - Jim and Gail as well as Dave, Rodney, Opal, and Bill.  Good peeps - yes not surprising.  The kids sprinkled in there too; Charlotte, Ethan, Lindsay and Jake, all seeing their heritage and smiling.  Yeah, at times adult crap but they know what's good for them, or they will figure it out. We all do, I guess. Most inspiring is the patient and playful positivity of Bill and Opal - married 67 years this year!

So, we visit, converse, and exchange experiences, Canada's birthday, a play-land called Whistler, and now the road as we enter the last leg; Montana, Utah and again Nevada, before catching a plane east.  As we think of what comes back east - the house, the little things here and there (work, mowing, dogs, etc) we are excited to be back and remain present in the travel moment for now.  More experiences for now.  Stay tuned.
As always,
